"THE BABY THAT MADE ME AN AUNT"
When I was just a young girl The age of twelve to be sure There came into my life to stay A little baby girl so pure. To you, a pretty name was given Dorothy Louise was tacked on you It wasn't very long at all To everyone you'd smile and coo. It was a very special event This precious baby girl someday In about one year from now 1938 Will call me AUNT and we shall play. She was preschool age, when Mom and Dad got a new car I remember something she bravely did Showing off things on this new car. (1941 Maroon Chevy 4-door) She pushed the cigarette lighter in When it got hot, it popped out' She pulled it out to show to me How hot and red it was, no doubt. I couldn't believe what she did next Back of my hand, she dabbed the lighter Surprised! I jumped and I won't repeat What I said when I fussed at her. (It left a mark for several years) She always wanted to take a ride On the big bicycle that I always rode So on the cross bar she would sit Across the highway and up the road. (I won't tell what happened one day) Happy memories, we did make While she was growing to be a lady The years all came and went so fast Interest in boys, soon I could see. Finally, four children she had All have families of their own Then along came one great-granddaughter Past 2 years old, Emma talks on the phone. I love this niece so very much On this her 65th birthday, I'll reminisce I'll send her wishes of health and happiness To last a lifetime and here's my KISS. B M Carathers |
