I have my morning coffee
On my back porch in leisure
And who should come to visit me
A cardinal to give me plesure.
In this old post oak tree
He flutters from branch to branch
Amoung the leaves he looks and hops
Just searching for what, on Calico's Ranch?
To the ground he looks for bugs
Then back into this old post oak tree
He does this several times and then
Over he flies to my peach tree, I see.
This smarty cardinal knows what's good
He only pecks at the good ripe one
The peaches do have lady bugs
When he flies, will there be none?
In the yard, his hen arrives
Then he flies over to check on her
They peck at this blue flowered weed
He fed her a bite: I saw it occur.
The two of them hopped thru the hdeges
Growing beside of my garage wall
Then off they flew to the old oak tree
Tomorrow, will the Cardinals come to call?
