Several years have come and gone,
Since the Bluebird House was given to me...
Made by a very dear friend of mine,
At Calico Meadows, it has to be.
It was hung at the top of this fence post,
Located at the end of the big hege row...
Across by the big cement garage apron,
The lawn reaches there, where I have to mow.
The other day my son told me,
Five pretty eggs in a neatly built nest...
Can hardly wait till they are hatched,
To see Mother Nature at her best.
The next report, I had from my son,
Hungry nestlings, there were five...
Just chirping away and waiting to be fed,
The Mother with food, to the nest she flies.
Soon the nestlings start feathering out,
A few days later, we check the nest...
Low and behold! They looked ready to fly,
Fully dressed with feathers and looking their best.
A morning or two later as I looked out the window,
On the garage apron, I spied the mother bird...
Along with her five nestlings, she was doing "bird talk",
As flight instructions were given, they heard every word.

They fluttered about and flew about,
But close to mother, they did stay...
Flying lessons they're learning real well,
Soon they'll have their first long "flight day".
It wasn't long before one took off,
Flying south towards the highway...
The other four and mother too,
Off to the sky and they flew away.
My son will clean out this same birdhouse,
To entice Mrs. Bluebird to come as before...
To build a new nest to lay her eggs,
A second new family, we'll keep score.
Today my son just gave me some news,
Already four eggs in her newly built nest...
Will she lay one more to make it five?
I think Mother Nature has done her beast.
Several days later, we left for town,
We checked the nest and low and behold...
Five young nestlings liked ready to fly,
Learning to fly, the babies will be bold.
I do love the things God's given to us,
To watch and admire, enjoy every day...
Things like birds, flowers and butterflies,
I'll savor His beauty till I'm old and gray.
