I thought I'd Like to go somewhere
To Mesquite I drove one day
I phoned a long-time friend of mine
To pay a visit, if I may.
'Tis 'most thirty years since first we met
Grace is the name of my good friend
Together we've had a lot of laughs
Still young at heart, our time we'll spend.
She was waiting on her porch
When I drove in to park
She seemed so glad that I had come
We both were happy as a lark.
Grace had moved since my last visit
Lots of room, a real nice place
Even though she had to move
It all looked so much like my Grace.
I met her lovely calico cat
Cally was her name
She looked a lot like my CALICO
Cally was pretty, just the same.
It was pushing six o'clock
So out to eat, we two went
To find someplace was hard to choose
At Grandy's: we ate and was content.
I thank you Grace, for being there
For being a friend to me
So very often I think of you
I love you Grace, don't you see.
We were standing on her porch
When I left Grace, 'twas almost nine
Homeward bound I had to go
To me, our friendship is enshrined.
