There are some tiny little birds
That came in March to stay
These tiny "Hummers", I do believe
Is the nicest thing to make your day.
They came to our backyard to see
If their two fountains of nectar are there
To fix their nectar: or they will fuss
I hope their summer with us they'll share.
It's "porch sitting time" to watch them fight
Over which bottle each bird is to drink
They fight each other like jets a fighting
Next thing you know, They've flown in a wink.
On the trumpet vines they lit
To savor the orange blooms awhile
Just to watch them for an hour or so
Would always bring a laugh or a smile.
Around the corner of the garage they flew
Exactly where, I do not know
They fly so fast, my eyes can't follow
I bet they flew to the thick hedge-row.
I've never found their tiny nest
It must be small and soooooo secure
Must have protection for the babies
As they grow older and really mature.
"Miss Cal-i-co" on her "throng" would watch
These whizzing, hovering, hummingbirds
To the nector bottles they came
Too close to Cal-i-co: WATCH OUT! was their word.
All summer long, we would enjoy
These "Hummingbirds" are quite a treat
So when next summer rolls around
Again, will the "Hummers" fly here to meet?
